I saw her through the window. Her long pink hair in need of a redo by her own admission but she was still looking exceptionally beautiful, her face caught my attention immediately.
She was serving a client so I walked past, pretending to be browsing which is difficult when its a tanning salon and next door is an empty unit.
Deep breath, in I go.
Women, especially young women can be hard to approach, those I want to talk to anyhow. Largely due to the thought of having their picture taken ‘unprepared’ albeit so many young women post 100’s of selfies a day.
Brenna Rae has a mature look to her face, in her eyes, only just out of her teens but already with a wealth of life experience about her person. She looks like a fun young woman but with a deep, serious side. After our chat and picture I had a look at her social media and she often tends to pull a face in pictures, we do that to hide a reality, like wearing a mask.
Name: Brenna Rae
Occupation: PR & Advertising Student & Minor in Entrepreneurship. Part time Sales Assistant Tanning Store.
1.Where were you born and raised?
Cape Coral, Florida.
‘I don’t want to say super religious but I was bought up in a church and I went to private school, I played sports my whole life, really disciplined, my parents are super cool, super laid back but pretty strict about me going out and stuff so I never partied much.’
2.Tell me a childhood memory.
‘I would say probably the first time I fell in love, he was a dog but it was fun, I was fourteen, he was seventeen. I was young and naive.’
This was an emotional story for Brenna Rae and she was dewy eyed. I asked her if she had any memories from when she was very young.
‘When I was younger I played soccer growing up, so my Dad used to always take off my shin guards and cleats and stuff and every year he would write super star on my stuff’.’
3.What is your favourite season and why?
‘I would say Summer, I like it when its hot, I get to wear less clothes and flip flops and a bikini or whatever’
4.Tell me about someone you love.
‘My younger cousin, she isn’t really even blood but we have a connection, like as if she is my daughter or my younger sister. I take care of her when she needs it and stuff like that. She is funny, she’s the funniest person I have ever met, she is just like so, she doesn’t care what anyone thinks, its like, refreshing to be around her.’ ‘Her name is Taylor.’
5.What words of wisdom do you have for the reader about life?
‘Sometimes when you fall you fly’.
6.Dreams for the future?
‘Happiness, successful, whatever way that is’.
Brenna Rae is still finding her place in life, undecided exactly as to what she wants to do, we talked about future work aspirations. Having met and talked to her I feel she has lots of choices, you don’t have to stick with one despite the ideals convention likes to dictate.
I imagine a colourful life for Brenna Rae for a while, parties, love stories and perhaps a few more photo shoots. But then I see her truly making a stamp on the world, she has the conviction and confidence already despite her young years.
She’d like to help people, find a creative avenue and build a business. I’d like to see her travel, I think the variety would suit her and would help her build the imagination to fuel the creative outlet she is currently seeking.
It’s bitter sweet talking to someone so young. You recognise the energy, miss the beauty and want to share your knowledge to prepare them for the road ahead but you cannot prepare anyone for that, they have to live it.
I looked at her not with jealousy but with the inner knowledge that I could recognise success in her disposition but oh how I would love her opportunities again.
