I have only recently met Mitchell since moving to the US.  He is a genuinely lovely guy, quiet, unassuming but confident.  A natural teacher, he pays attention to everything you say and delivers his response carefully after much thought.

He has an adorable little girl and stunning wife..living the life he always wanted teaching Golf in the Florida sunshine.

Name: Mitchell Spearman

Occupation: Professional Golf Instructor (In the Top 100 Golf Coaches in the USA)

Featured host of the International TV show Golfing World.

1. Where were you born & raised?

London, St Mary’s Hospital. Raised in Finchley went to school in Hampstead.  A nice upbringing with one sibling, an older sister and supportive parents who encourage Mitchell in his sporting endeavours.

2. Tell me a childhood memory.

‘I remember being in the car with my Uncle when I was very young & driving out to a golf course to play and he was holding in his hand two golf balls.  One was the American size ball and one was a British size ball and that they were different.  At my age at the time about 7, they looked identical, he could tell just by holding them that one was bigger, which of course I can tell myself now but at the time it was quite fascinating.  The word American was huge for me, anytime I heard the word American it just meant better, thats what American meant to my mind.  So I had this image even before the age of 10 that I had to come and spend my life in America.’

I find it incredible that this childhood memory or impression that was made for Mitchell determined how and where he would spend the rest of his life.  He is very focused and a believer in the power of thought.  Something I have seen in other good sports coach professionals.  Using the power of the mind to not only keep you focused on the game but also to aid and assist in achieving your goals.

3. What is your favourite season & why?

‘I think funny enough I quite enjoy Summer, I enjoy heat, I like it when its warm I quite enjoy being out in the blazing sun.  The depths of summer I like the most.’

4. Tell me about someone you love.

‘My dog.  I’ve got a great little dog that we got about 5 or 6 months before Isobel was born.  His name is Yogi and he is a soft coated Wheaten Terrier and he’s just a very loveable dog and what you give to him you get back, his loyalty and his desire to just be cosy with and have fun with you and there is never moment where thats not 100% present.  He’s a good friend and an extension of the family, if you walk in and he isn’t there it feels really empty so its amazing how much presence they have.’

5. What words of wisdom do you have for the reader about life?

‘Enjoy it, it goes quickly!  My mother always had this saying.  As much as we’d like to know about tomorrow, as much as we’d like to know the outcome about something, if we knew everything then life wouldn’t be worth living.’

6. Dreams for the future..

‘My dreams are dreams for Isobel.. A healthy life for her, lots of friends, nice environment.  My dreams are very connected into her. I think to a large extent my dreams have been fulfilled and she was part of that.’

Mitchell has a very content demeanour and his responses to all the questions show that he seems pretty happy with his lot.  Focused and determined with clear dreams have found him in the place he wants to be in life.

I love the answer to ‘Someone he loves’  Yogi his dog!  Who I have seen and he is adorable.  But his response was genuine, sincere and he didn’t hesitate.  Perhaps hard for someone without a dog or close pet to understand…before my dogs I definitely wouldn’t have got it.  But the love of a pet is unconditional and can be very rewarding and offer great companionship.

I enjoyed talking to Mitchell.  He packs a lot into a sentence and each word is carefully considered.

Mitchell reminded me of ‘Hugh Grant’.  Probably the tone of voice..the ‘Englishness’ of him, which considering he has lived here so long he has done well to keep..despite his desire to be all American!
