I spotted Megan straight away and then she disappeared into the ladies room, she was with a young man so I approached him first and told him what I was doing. They were on Honeymoon, they have been married for just a week.
I find myself in a difficult position with this subject. She didn’t give me much information, just answered my questions matter of factly. Very sweet and nice, told me about her passion for quilting and love of vintage but didn’t really let me in emotionally.
My feelings about her appearance go deeper than my thoughts on tattoos, I don’t dislike them or feel judgemental towards people that have them..I have always fancied a cheeky one somewhere myself. But I do feel they tell more of a story than what you see in the ink.

We talked more, about her confidence and self assured nature that she was portraying to me. It seems that she has had a solid foundation from her parents and lots of love there. I don’t know why but I felt that she had been given a hard time from somewhere, that she wasn’t always this confident. She touched on difficulties at school, we all know how kids can be and I think now kids are even meaner. I think Megan, despite having lots of friends that she told me perhaps wasn’t so secure as a teenager and found a way of building protection around herself with the tattoos. Its like a club, a mutual appreciation society too, you get accepted into that group and it makes you feel as though you belong.
Megan had lots of Disney tattoos, a whole sleeve, this made me feel that she is still very young, she wears portraits of her family on her body, and has words and sentences that show her feelings..this is how she has been able to express herself.
Of course, this is just how I felt talking to her. I could be so very wrong and she just loves the art of it.
But it beggars the question, when you look at someone do you make a snap judgement based on their appearance or does how they look make you ask questions about that person?
Of course, our first instinct is to judge. But look harder everyone has a story to tell.
