Nova – Nu Bride Fabulous II

This was my first time meeting Nova.  A beautiful young woman with many talents. Editor of Award winning Wedding Blog NuBride, Singer, Therapist and all round fabulous human. Nova‘s mission is to bring all women a just and fair service regardless of race or colour when planning their wedding.  Sadly, & surprisingly the industry still fails people.  Nobody should receive poor treatment at anytime in their lives but when you get engaged you expect the journey to your wedding to be magical..and it is often not. Please visit Novas lovely journal and show support for this stylish young ladies cause. http://nubride.com Here Nova answers a few questions, all her own words. 1. In one sentence, tell us who you are and what do you do? My name is Nova I am founder and editor of wedding blog Nu Bride: dedicated to add a splash of diversity and encourage the mainstream wedding industry to be more inclusive. I am also a therapist and enjoy the occasional sing song! 2. Whats the favourite thing about your job Helping people 3. Who do you admire the most in your work? and why? People who act with integrity, honesty, and people who are willing to try 4. How did it feel to be photographed? Delicious 5. Did it improve your confidence? No, but that’s because my former acting days in front of the camera have hard wired me. I was lucky enough to hang backstage and was watching...
Fabulous Shoot II

Fabulous Shoot II

It’s no secret that I like to photograph women.  At work, for a portrait session, someone with a story to tell or for a ‘She’ shoot. Over the past few years I have met many great people in the industry of weddings, photography, beauty, men & women. This year for the 2nd time I have pulled together large group of this gorgeous talent for what we now call ‘The Fabulous’ shoot. Admittedly in the image it is all women plus a gorgeous baby girl but we had two boys on set too!  So please don’t think me biased.. This time instead of just the large group I spent time with each individual, took smaller groups together..stylists, photographers, florists etc..there were a lot of images hence why its taken me 6 months to edit them! I hope you enjoy the following days and couple of weeks as I share with you individually the people that took part and tell you their story, why they do what they do, who inspires them and how it felt to be photographed with all these lovely people. Only myself and the two boys avoided the camera but we did make one group shot. It was a great day, a stunning building full of stunning & talented people.  Colleagues, friends, competitors!  All together feeling fabulous…. Big thanks to the stylists..all pictured. Maids to Measure – #Girls Night Out!

Maids to Measure – #Girls Night Out!

The gorgeous girlies over at ‘Maids to Measure’ design and create wonderful gowns for bridesmaids. After discovering how difficult it was for Brides and their Maids to find suitable, fun & gorgeous gowns the girls have set up their own beautiful boutique. Armfuls of awards later, a wonderful collection of stockists and a portfolio of very happy Brides and their Maids you can safely say the girls knew exactly what was missing in the marketplace. Wednesday evening the Maid to Measure crew hosted a fabulous girly soiree for all the Brides and their Maids to come and see wonderful suppliers, check out their offerings and see them in action.  The Maids were given food, drink and armfuls of hospitality all on top of fabulous Roof Gardens in Kensington. What a fabulous place!  I wasn’t expecting this.  Great Bar, huge space, then out onto the roof top partially covered by marquee (and very cosy) There were gorgeous brickwork tunnels filled with the wonderful aroma of the abundant BBQ!  Then out to the most exotic looking garden you would never expect to find on a roof in Kensington..can’t wait to go back.  Loved it. I took a handful of pictures whilst there.  Just enough to give you a flavour of the evening.  It was busy, lively, entertaining, certainly a wonderful event and one that wedding service providers should do their upmost to take part in, in future.  I hope they do it again!   Please see below a list of the suppliers that featured, click on the names to go to their websites. Andrea Hawkes Bridal & Occasion – Clerkenwell

Andrea Hawkes Bridal & Occasion – Clerkenwell

This year for me is all about getting out from behind my desk and putting my foot in the door of the wedding industry.  Don’t get me wrong, I have been firmly working in ‘Weddings & Events’ for well over a decade but have only tentatively trod in the social & networking scene of my associates in the industry.  Of course you make friends and work colleagues over that period of time but in order to be remembered and referred to by people, you need to be present, you need to make an effort, especially as a photographer because they are so many good ones around! Don’t get me wrong, I’m not shy..its just that the industry, as in most, can be quite overwhelming, sometimes intimidating & often fiercely competitive as well as (what you’d expect from weddings)…beautiful, fluffy and romantic! There are some incredibly creative and quite charming people out there and through my recent endeavours I have managed to meet them and in some cases work with them.  This helps me refer wonderful people to my brides & clients who are also overwhelmed by the sheer volume of choice and who have occasionally suffered at the hands of bad service.  It is good to go out & seek the current trends, source new suppliers & find innovative new services that are springing up everywhere! I met Andrea Hawkes, Bespoke Bridal Designer, recently at the Icetank Studios in Convent Garden where they held their fabulous #weddinginatank event.  Andrea was showcasing her designs, modelled by the delightful Sophie, who incredibly isn’t a professional model but one of Andreas lovely part-time assistants, this is a great advert for...
#Tanked Wedding In a Tank @ICETANK

#Tanked Wedding In a Tank @ICETANK

It was one of those days.  You know the ones were you have so much to do and another fives hours in the day wouldn’t go amiss. I’d very kindly been invited by Jane from Planned for Perfection along to this wedding industry showcase and didn’t wanna miss it.  I’d seen IceTank studios in Convent Garden in images often and was really keen to take a look, plus there was going to be a whole host of other industry peeps so always good to catch up. So despite having a portrait shoot that morning in Berkshire and needing to be back in Surrey by 3pm I readily agreed to go and went and got my jet engines out!! Icetank studios are tucked away in a side street in Convent Garden, Londons West End, a perfect location. A large picture window gives huge opportunity for dressing, display or pure voyeurism!  I thought up lots of ideas whilst there I was also reliably informed that shutters can also come down for privacy if required. There were two events that day ‘Wedding in a Tank’ for all of us wedding suppliers & ‘Party in a Tank’ which was aimed at the fashion brands and agencies. Wild about Flowers provided the most stunning flower displays, with a suspended ceiling display and exquisite arrangements all over the venue, they also held floral crown workshops downstairs for people to get all florally creative!  The scent was incredible..sorry you can’t appreciate here. Light Motif  were the production providers creating incredible lighting displays, something couples very often don’t consider but for me is an essential ingredient to any event.  The...
Emma Hunt London – Fulham Palace

Emma Hunt London – Fulham Palace

In my opinion it is all down to experience. Not, how many years you have been in the business, or how many weddings you have photographed, dresses you have made, bouquets you have created.  For me, as a service provider in the bridal industry it is all about the experience we give our couples who are engaged to be married. Call me an old romantic if you will but a bride should fall in love a 100 times on the road to her wedding..her dress, her shoes, the venue (maybe not the photographer but the style at least!) but it should be an emotive experience.  When a couple or bride are stood in front of me I want them to decide with their heart not their head whether or not I am for them. So, that brings me to today.  I have stood in boutiques, at wedding shows, venues, with caterers and have been amazed at the lack of enthusiasm or genuine interest in the people enquiring for their services, I can accept this attitude in the supermarket, if I must but NOT when two people are planning the most important day of their lives…today I saw genuine, creative people, they had patience and were interested, both brides and designers got emotional and the overall ambiance in the room was warm and welcoming, which was all down to the people. Fulham Palace is a venue with a heart and history.  So many original features, beautiful chandeliers, the biggest windows pouring in stunning light which created dancing shadows on the walls and made everyone look gorgeous.  The wooden floors swept warmth...
