Lieanna & Sean – Love in the Abbey

Lieanna & Sean – Love in the Abbey

It was a wonderful evening.  A shoot planned for golden hour and a location full of texture, beauty and romance. Waverley Abbey in Farnham is just stunning and I am horrified to say it is my first visit, I knew of it but had never been there.  I thoroughly recommend you go for a walk, with kids, dogs or camera and just enjoy the stroll and ambience of the place. Lieanna & Sean came to me through a friend and are a lovely couple, very much in love even after 10 years together!  I’m so glad they came to me to photograph and film their wedding. After their ceremony at St Erconwalds in Walton On Thames they have chosen the very lovely Farnham Castle for their reception.  I shall look forward to sharing their wedding with you a few weeks time. A bit of history from the National Trust Website: ‘The monastery at Waverley, the first Cistercian house to be established in Britain, was founded by William Gifford, Bishop of Winchester, in 1128. It was colonised with 12 monks and an abbot from Aumone in France. By 1187 there were 70 monks and 120 lay brothers in residence.    In 1201 the abbey buildings were badly flooded. This became a common occurrence and as a result the abbey was substantially rebuilt during the 13th century.  It continued to grow in the 14th century. The monks and lay brothers farmed the surrounding land, were active in the Cistercian wool trade and provided shelter for pilgrims and travellers and an infirmary for the sick.   In 1536, with the Dissolution of the Monasteries,...
Maids To Measure

Maids To Measure

This week I had the delightful opportunity to visit Sinclair Sellars of Maids to Measure, the Award winning, super stylish, bridesmaid gown design service who are making waves within the wedding industry. Sinclair, one half of a dynamic sister act, alongside her equally gorgeous sister, India.  These creative and clever girls have revolutionised the purchase of the bridesmaid gown. Their wonderful studio space, nestled amongst other creative businesses, just a stones throw from Fulham and the fashionable Kings Road is full of gorgeous gowns, inspiration, comfy sofas, champagne, cake and quirky accessories that will make any Bride and her maids feel absolutely delighted. Lets talk about being bridesmaid… Back in my day (I am becoming a relic) bridesmaids wore chintz, florals, and huge puffed sleeves, full skirts and resembled Little Bo Peep..think Four Weddings and a Funeral. It was a horror story. Brides are a bit kinder nowadays but between the taste of their Maids, the different sizes of their Maids and their budget for gowns, deciding on what everyone will wear is still very difficult and in some cases can cause the breakup of friendships! So where to go?  The High St tends to be the first Port of call and there are some options available but they often don’t inspire and the ones that do can cost a fortune.  Then people trawl the internet which largely results in disappointment because what arrives will not look like the picture and the fabric and fit can be way off. Maids To Measure offer many solutions..buy online or take the time to visit the studio, have champagne, eat cake try on some gowns..this to me sounds...
Milbridge Court – Wedding & Events Venue

Milbridge Court – Wedding & Events Venue

I love visiting venues for events.  One day I’ll have one of my own, and it will be fabulous! Don’t you just adore all the little details, the special extras, the interior design & cleverness? We all love a plump sofa, posh soap in the loo, the smell of fresh flowers and beautiful artworks adorning walls. When seeking a wedding venue or a place to hold that special event we want to fall in love at first sight and then marvel at all the little details. I am often asked about venues and I consider the couple before me when giving them my advice and sharing my experience. Having spent many years organising events and weddings, previous to picking up my camera I have amassed a large knowledge of all things wedding! My first encounter with Milbridge Court was their showcase event, alongside Kalm Kitchen their in-house caterers and a collective of esteemed wedding personnel, they created a stunning visual, entertaining & edible display. Despite being busy, gossiping all things bridal with all the guests you couldn’t help but be amazed at this great space and what you could do with it..and the vast amounts of food from Kalm Kitchen, they always look amazing and taste even better. But on a day to day basis without the countries best wedding designers at your fingertips (or budget) what does Milbridge Court offer to the every day bride & groom? This is my take on the venue and how I would present it to my couples. Milbridge Court to me is like being married at home, albeit a very, very, nice home, only so much better and...
Exclusive Luxury Venue…..

Exclusive Luxury Venue…..

I’m not one to tease but I will on this occasion. There will soon be a new wedding and event venue in the Hampshire area and let me tell you, its absolutely stunning. Private and exclusive, in the prettiest & most charming grounds I have ever come across. This venue will be for the discerning bride where only the best will do and no distractions or uninvited guests are allowed. Not only will weddings be hosted here but also private parties and commercial get togethers with a host of activities available for your stay. With plans for sumptuous rooms to eat, sleep and entertain I am having trouble making any comparisons. Hopefully you won’t be kept in the dark for much longer as plans are underway for a wonderful showcase event…I do hope you are invited.  😉 In the meantime my wonderful friend, Paula and I were invited along for a preview and to make plans for an exciting photoshoot to whet your appetite for all things Quintessentially English in weddings!     This is Paula in the newly created reflection area…running her wedding empire!  ...
Maids to Measure – #Girls Night Out!

Maids to Measure – #Girls Night Out!

The gorgeous girlies over at ‘Maids to Measure’ design and create wonderful gowns for bridesmaids. After discovering how difficult it was for Brides and their Maids to find suitable, fun & gorgeous gowns the girls have set up their own beautiful boutique. Armfuls of awards later, a wonderful collection of stockists and a portfolio of very happy Brides and their Maids you can safely say the girls knew exactly what was missing in the marketplace. Wednesday evening the Maid to Measure crew hosted a fabulous girly soiree for all the Brides and their Maids to come and see wonderful suppliers, check out their offerings and see them in action.  The Maids were given food, drink and armfuls of hospitality all on top of fabulous Roof Gardens in Kensington. What a fabulous place!  I wasn’t expecting this.  Great Bar, huge space, then out onto the roof top partially covered by marquee (and very cosy) There were gorgeous brickwork tunnels filled with the wonderful aroma of the abundant BBQ!  Then out to the most exotic looking garden you would never expect to find on a roof in Kensington..can’t wait to go back.  Loved it. I took a handful of pictures whilst there.  Just enough to give you a flavour of the evening.  It was busy, lively, entertaining, certainly a wonderful event and one that wedding service providers should do their upmost to take part in, in future.  I hope they do it again!   Please see below a list of the suppliers that featured, click on the names to go to their websites. Suzanne Neville, Freya Rose, Charlotte Mills Bridal, Eagle Eyed Bride,...
Andrea Hawkes Bridal & Occasion – Clerkenwell

Andrea Hawkes Bridal & Occasion – Clerkenwell

This year for me is all about getting out from behind my desk and putting my foot in the door of the wedding industry.  Don’t get me wrong, I have been firmly working in ‘Weddings & Events’ for well over a decade but have only tentatively trod in the social & networking scene of my associates in the industry.  Of course you make friends and work colleagues over that period of time but in order to be remembered and referred to by people, you need to be present, you need to make an effort, especially as a photographer because they are so many good ones around! Don’t get me wrong, I’m not shy..its just that the industry, as in most, can be quite overwhelming, sometimes intimidating & often fiercely competitive as well as (what you’d expect from weddings)…beautiful, fluffy and romantic! There are some incredibly creative and quite charming people out there and through my recent endeavours I have managed to meet them and in some cases work with them.  This helps me refer wonderful people to my brides & clients who are also overwhelmed by the sheer volume of choice and who have occasionally suffered at the hands of bad service.  It is good to go out & seek the current trends, source new suppliers & find innovative new services that are springing up everywhere! I met Andrea Hawkes, Bespoke Bridal Designer, recently at the Icetank Studios in Convent Garden where they held their fabulous #weddinginatank event.  Andrea was showcasing her designs, modelled by the delightful Sophie, who incredibly isn’t a professional model but one of Andreas lovely part-time assistants, this is a great advert for...
