Don’t you miss the dreams of youth?  The feeling that just around the corner or sometime soon it will happen, your moment and it will be amazing!

Thats the energy I felt immediately on meeting Saquan.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not belittling his dream, I believe it too..and yes thats the correct tense, I still have those dreams, albeit I may have lost my youth.

This gorgeous young man walked into my view and there was no way I was going to let him walk past, however sassy his strut.

Name: Saquan

Occupation: Dancer/Performer (Currently at the Magic Kingdom)

1.Where were you born and raised?

Hoboken, New Jersey.  A small town in New Jersey, Saquan was raised in the projects.

‘Raised by my single Mom.  Me, my mom and my two older siblings who unlike me, both had hispanic fathers.’

2. Tell me a childhood memory.

‘My brother was doing a show called Dreamgirls on Broadway, my favourite movie of all time  He used to watch me while my Mother went to work so I would go to the rehearsals with him.  Sitting in the little theatre chairs I learned the entire show, my brother came back the next day and told everyone I knew the whole show so they called me out and put me on the stage and let sing one of the first numbers in front of everyone.  I think its one of the reasons for me wanting to be in the industry.’

3. What is your favourite season and why?

‘My favourite season is Winter, I grew up in the cold and I am really into fashion, in the winter time, my wardrobe it really has a lot more to offer.  I also really like snow.  At the beginning of winter in my home town, I live across the water from New York so New York City skyline is my view.  So I go to the water and clear my head.  Not too many people are out in the winter so it’s peaceful.’

4. Tell me about someone you love.

‘I would have to say my Mother.  I watched her grow into such a strong human being with a partial weak heart.  I say that because of like, we’ve always been at the bottom, like financially or just in living situations in general and having to raise three kids on her own and stuff.  Losing family members and she has always been the glue to the family.  I admire that more than anything, she has always supported me in all that I have done, even if she didn’t know what it was about.  She made sure that I knew that the love was there.  I watched her raise me, my brother and my sister.  We are at a great space now, she is a hard worker and has a great job in a school.  They love her.’

5. What words of wisdom do you have for the reader about life?

‘Definitely growing as an individual, you have to learn about yourself before you can learn to cope with others.  To remain humble and to continue to remain focused on what you want and not get lost.  Stay focused on your life goal and love God.’

6. Dreams for the future?

‘Broadway is always my dream..I have just auditioned for a few shows and I am waiting to hear back.  But my dream is to become a Broadway star and work my way into movies and commercials.  Then one day I want to buy a Theatre school in my home town that focuses specifically on Drama and the arts because I think a lot of kids are imaginative and artistic.’

I’d buy a ticket to see Saquan on stage..he has passion and drive and has worked hard to get to where he is now.

I hope life doesn’t pull him down and take away his shine.  The world needs more people like him to make the it a brighter place to be.

My dream right now is to someday be watching a movie and see his name in the credits, wouldn’t that be amazing.  Look at his face and remember his name because I’m sure we are all going to see it again soon.
